We are so proud of how you have settled into Year 1 and have adapted to the new rules and routines in school this half term.

Thank you to all parents and carers for supporting us along the way. 🙏🙏 We are so pleased that most of you have already signed up to our various home learning projects.  Thank you to those of you who have tested out the drawing tools on Class Dojo !,

Don’t forget to sign up for “Class Dojo”, “Lexia”, “Mathletics” and “Times-tables Rockstars” if you haven’t done so already. Your child was sent home with a pack of log in details last Friday.

As well as having a well-deserved break over half term, we would like your child to practise their phonics. There is a sheet attached to this page to explain which sounds/words they are to cover. We will post these on Class Dojo too. At this point in our learning, we would like to see most children giving sentence writing a good go by listening out for which sounds they can hear and writing them down. We are also focussing on correct punctuation, capital letters and finger spaces. We find that 10-15minutes of sentence writing first thing on a morning is a lot more valuable than sitting for a prolonged period as children are able to focus better for short periods of time.

We would also like you to research the origins of bonfire night with your child. We will be answering these key questions next half term:

• When was bonfire night?
• How do we celebrate it?
• Why do we still celebrate bonfire night?

Please challenge your child to think of a way to present their findings to the class. This might be in the form of an informative video, a poster or by making a simple book.

We will also be uploading some maths challenges on to Mathletics. Please access these as well as Lexia, Times Table Rockstars and the Oxford Reading Tree  website “Oxford Owls” for further reading material.
