Key 5 – Trying Out – Keep Learning New Things – 7.5.2020
Hello St George’s,
Key 5 -Trying Out – Keep Learning New Things
You might think learning is something you do at school, or that it is something boring that adults make you do, but learning new things can actually bring you happiness! You can learn all the time through playing games, having hobbies, exploring, reading, and being curious and creative.
Learning can be challenging and it may feel good at the time. But if you keep on trying you will feel proud when you’ve learned something new. That’s part of happiness too.
REMEMBER TO KEEP TRYING THE MORE PRACTICE THE BETTER YOU GET!
The Power of Yet
Instead of saying ‘I can’t do this!” or “I’m no good at this, adding the word yet can mean we keep trying and get less frustrated with ourselves. so remember to add yet! … “I can’t do this … yet!” or “I’m no good at this … yet!”
Quick Start – Learning and Feeling
Ask yourself:
What do you love to learn?
- For example, your favourite subject at school, a hobby you’ve not tried before, a new skill in sport or new dance steps. How many things can you think of?
- What is one thing that you found hard to learn but eventually succeeded in doing!
- What is one thing you’ve tried for the first time recently?
- What do you feel when you’ve succeeded at something new?
- Do you feel the same for learning different activities?
Try Out Something New
Why not make a list of new things to try. How many can you think of? Be sure to ask and adult before you try them! Trying something new can be a bit scary at first, but it can also be lots of fun and a source of ideas. Here are some new things to try.
- Create a new outfit from recycling old clothes and accessories
- Start a new hobby
- Learn a new game
- Listen to and learn a song by a musician you’ve not heard before.
- Take a different route to school (ask an adult first)
Top Tip – If you’re having trouble learning something, try making it into a game.
Stay safe, well and happy. xxx
