Letter to St George’s Parents

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am delighted to inform you that earlier this week the SaGE MAT Board took the final decision for St George’s and St John’s to join the Durham and Newcastle Diocesan Learning Trust (DNDLT).  We hope that the transfer of the schools into the DNDLT will take place as planned on the 1st April 2022 but will keep you updated on progress in case anything changes.

So, what does this mean for your children and their school?  Every decision made by the Durham and Newcastle Diocesan Trust is taken in line with our core mission and values.  We genuinely believe that “every child matters and no child should ever be left behind” and also apply this principle to our staff, parents and communities as a whole.  We pride ourselves on making sure our staff and our leaders feel valued and we want to make sure that you feel fully part of your child’s journey through our Church of England Schools.  Over time you will notice new polices on your school website, some of which will direct you to our Trust Website and a change on the school letterhead to show our company number but what we really want moving forwards is for you to feel welcome in our schools and part of your child’s learning journey.

Mr Ramsay and Mrs Skirving (who is currently Acting Head at St George’s) are excellent Headteachers and being part of the Trust means they and their teams of staff will have access to our bespoke Professional Development Programmes and access to a range of support from the Trust to enable the schools to run as effectively as possible.    As CEO I will be in school but not necessarily visible all of the time as the Trust will by then be made up of eleven schools.

From the 1st April your local Governing Body will be called an Academy Council; but they will still have the same function in respect of supporting leaders to ensure appropriate oversight of what is happening in school.  As a Trust we will support the Chairs of both St George’s and St John’s Local Academy Councils along with the academy councillors to ensure children have access to a brilliant education and experience at school.

Best wishes,

Canon Paul Rickeard
