Meet the Teacher

Don’t worry if you couldn’t make the meeting.

Reading books

In Year 1 the children don’t have a specific reading day so please encourage your child to have their book and reading record each day.

Please help your child to develop fluency by practising reading key words by sight and supporting their phonetic development.

Comprehension skills are very important and need to be developed in the early stages of reading. Please support your child by asking them questions about the text they are reading.

New spellings will be given out on a Tuesday and tested the following Monday. They usually follow a spelling pattern and do support your child’s phonetic development.

Your child will be encouraged to write their spelling test result on a piece of paper so you will be aware of their score.

Monday 1S

Tuesday 1G

Please ensure your child has a p.e kit in school. Long hair needs to be tied back and earrings removed or covered.

Water bottles

We are a healthy school and ask that the children access drinking water throughout the day. We encourage the children to bring their own, named, water bottle daily.

We hope this helps you and your child settle in to the routines of Year One. If you have any concerns or questions please come and ask us.  We would like this transition period to be as positive as we can.

Thank you,

Mrs Bentley, Mrs Barker, Miss Robinson and Mrs Fletcher
