Strike a Pose – 22.5.2020

Hello St Georges,

We have two more yoga poses for you to try out today.  We hope you enjoy trying them out.

Warrior (Benefits: Balance, Empower, Focus, Strengthen)

Warrior Pose imparts boldness, personal power, and confidence.  It can also help your child to develop focus and concentration.

What to do:

  • Start in Mountain Pose
  • Take a big step back with your right foot.  Keep your hips facing forward. 
  • Bend your left knee so that your thigh is parallel to the ground.  Keep your back leg straight.
  • Raise your arms up to the sky and breathe! Say “I am strong!”
  • Come back to Mountain Pose.  Switch legs and repeat.

Star (Benefits: Strengthen)

Star pose (for five pointed star) seems simple enough, but holding the pose correctly for any length of time is actually quite challenging.  Encourage your child to engage all the muscles of her body to maintain the pose.

What to do:

  • Start in Mountain Pose.
  • Hop you feet apart and stretch your arms straight out to each side.
  • Stand up tall, press your feet into the floor and lift your head to the sky.
  • Exhale and relax your shoulders down away from your ears.
  • Breathe in an out for 10 seconds.  For an extra challenge, hold the pose for as long as you can before your arms need to rest.
  • Shake out your arms and return to Mountain Pose before trying again.
