Summer Term 2022

Classes 2S and 2G

In English, we will be studying a range of core texts, poetry and non-fiction. Through these, we will focus on a range of writing genres including, story, letters, recounts, non-chronological reports and poems. The children will continue to develop their use of various forms of punctuation, grammar and vocabulary within their sentences. We will be reading and listening to a range of texts on a daily basis across a range of subjects.

As Mathematicians, we will be exploring place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, measures (including time, weight, capacity and length) and position and direction.

As Historians, we are going to find out about various significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national and international achievements, including explorers, monarchs and local heroes. We will discover the impact they had on the lives of others. We will explore historical concepts such as continuity and change, cause and consequence, similarity, difference and significance, and use them to make connections and draw contrasts.

As Geographers, we will use world maps, atlases and globes to name and locate the world’s seven continents and five oceans. We will identify seasonal and daily weather patterns in the United Kingdom and the location of hot and cold areas of the world in relation to the Equator and the North and South Poles. Using simple compass directions (North, South, East and West) and locational and directional language ( eg, near and far; left and right), we will describe the location of features and routes on a map.

As Scientists, we will be observing the seasonal changes in the local environment as well as the daily weather. We will identify and compare the uses and suitability of a variety of everyday materials including wood, metal, plastic, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses. We will investigate some materials that can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching. In addition, we will identify and name different plants and animals in their habitats, including microhabitats.

Art and DT

As Artists and designers, we will develop our painting and drawing skills to mix colours and produce different tones. We will explore textiles and a range of portraiture and memorabilia related to the Queen.

In RE, we will explore the ‘good news’ that Jesus brought through our ‘Gospel’ study unit. We will then look at what makes some places sacred to believers exploring the Church, Mosque, Synagogue and Gurdwara.

In PSHE, we will be exploring the need for good hygiene, finding out about what helps us to keep safe, and discussing how we recognise and manage different feelings.

PE will be on Wednesday (2G) or Friday (2S) but please ensure your child has their PE kit in school at all times, including outdoor shoes.

Homework will be sent home every Friday and must be returned by the following Wednesday.

We try to listen to your child read as often as possible but we really value your support in listening to your child read regularly at home. Please record this in the reading record. Your child should have their reading book in school every day.
