Year 2 Spring Term information
Where in the World?
As Geographers we will use world maps, atlases and globes to identify, name and locate the world’s seven continents and five oceans. We will recognise that some of these continents have significant hot and/or cold areas and describe the specific human and physical features in these landscapes. We will use research to discover and describe the habitat of a significant animal from each continent. We will use aerial images to recognise landmarks and basic physical features of different places. We will locate hot and cold areas of the world in relation to the equator. We will communicate our ideas using the appropriate geographical vocabulary.
As Scientists we will identify and name the habitats of a variety of animals and plants and recognise how different habitats provide the basic needs for each animal and plant. We will look at the differences between the habitats. We will identify some simple food chains and look at how animals and plants depend on each other.
In our art lessons we will study the work of a notable artist and use some of their ideas and techniques to create our own pieces. We will use a combination of materials that are cut, torn and glued to create texture in a collage.
In RE we will explore the Gospel and the Good News which Jesus brings.
Homework will be sent home every Friday and should be returned by the following Wednesday. Spellings will be sent out on Tuesday and tested the following Monday.
Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school at all times, including outdoor shoes.
